Day 10 - Optional Excursion to Alexandria

Disclaimer: Some people who booked the tour did not have this "extra" day. They may have booked with a different company, or possibly a different package. The people who did not have this day didn't have the option to take the optional excursion to Alexandria.

We had signed up for the Optional Excursion to Alexandria, and that consumed most of the day today. The bus left very early to avoid traffic - at 6:00am. We had ordered a "breakfast box" to take with us, since we would miss the excellent breakfast at the hotel. At 6:00am, we boarded the bus, and went on the 2.5 hour drive to Alexandria. We stopped once on the way at a small "zoo" to use the bathrooms.

We arrived in Alexandria around 8:45am. We had 10 minutes to walk around before our first site, the Citadel of Qaitbay, opened. Our guide didn't give us a tour there, we just walked around to take pictures. At 9:30am, we left to visit Kom El-Shuqafa Monuments - a nearby catacomb. Our guide gave us a short tour there, and then we were off again.

The bus took us to Amud El-Sawari, also known as Pompei's Pillar. We spent 15-20 minutes there taking pictures (there wasn't much to see, and we didn't get a tour). From there, the bus took us to a Roman Theatre. That was neat to see. We spent around 20-25 minutes there before moving on.

For the last stop of the day, we had a choice between the new Alexandria Library, and a museum. We chose to visit the Alexandria Library. It was quite a neat and modern building!

We left the library at noon, and then battled the traffic all the way back to the hotel. We arrived back at 4:00pm. In the evening, on our own time, we visited the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar.

This was our last full day in Egypt. The following day, the Trafalgar Representative met us in the lobby, and took us to the Cairo Airport so we could take our Royal Jordanian flight home.
