Pompei's Pillar (Amud El-Sawari) is a small park in Alexandria, Egypt. It contains a fairly large red granite pillar (Pompei's Pillar), and a couple tiny Sphinx statues.

I was impressed with the height of the pillar - it was pretty tall - but I was otherwise disappointed with this attraction. There wasn't much to see - just a pillar, and a couple sphinxes.

When we visited, the area surrounding the pillar was undergoing renovations. There were lots of workmen cutting stone and laying stone tiles on the ground. It looked like a new entranceway had already been constructed. The area around the pillar was very sandy and rocky, so maybe they were trying to make it more tourist-friendly.

Cost

Foreign visitors pay 15 LE, and foreign students get a small discount - they can enter for 10 LE.

Estimated Visiting Time

There really isn't much to see here - 15 minutes should be fine to walk up to the pillar and take some pictures.
