The Stratosphere from the Ground

The Stratosphere is one of the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. Its main attraction is that you can go up the tower. There is an observation deck at the top, as well as a number of thrill rides.

After purchasing your ticket (or obtaining your free tickets if you are a hotel guest visiting during the designated window), you must get in a security line to go up the tower. Bags are manually searched, and you will need to walk through a metal detector.

The observation deck is one of the better "tower observation decks" I've been to. There is a starbucks outlet, a gift shop, and both indoor and outdoor viewing areas. If you're just looking for a view, be sure to also check out Mix Lounge.

Insanity The Ride

The Stratosphere Tower has the worlds three highest thrill rides in the world. The tallest thrill ride is Big Shot at the Stratosphere, and is a tower that you ride at the top of the stratosphere. The other two rides are XSCREAM (which shoots you over the edge of the Stratosphere Tower), and Insanity The Ride, which spins you around in circles. If you're a ride enthusiast, you definitely need to give these a try - being on top of a tower as tall as the Stratosphere makes relatively tame rides an adrenaline rush.

Going up the tower is free for hotel guests, as long as you go up between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Otherwise, expect to pay $10.95 per person. The rides are an additional fee - $16.95 for one ride, $20.95 for two, or $24.95 for all three rides.
