The Art Under The Bridge Festival is a festival that takes place in the DUMBO area of Brooklyn (just across the Brooklyn Bridge). There were a number of buildings that were displaying interesting art pieces, with additional art pieces in public areas like parks, on the sidewalk, or attached to the side of buildings.

Overall, I was quite disappointed in the quality of the art pieces. The vast majority of them were just weird. For example - one exhibit showed what looked like a man in a gorilla costume with a hole in the back of its head. Another exhibit showed the surgical procedure for removing fingers. There were a number of very strange videos of random clips with strange editing. I found many of the art pieces were just too strange to even bother looking at.

There were a couple notable exceptions - there was one art piece that showed the island of Manhattan made up of bottles. The bottles were arranged more or less at the appropriate height of the area, with special large bottles for the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. The art piece looked quite neat, and must have taken awhile to put together.

There was also a neat "hill" in a park that was made out of beads and jewelry. There wasn't anything neat or special about it, but the different colored beads looked neat all together.

The last neat exhibit we saw compared the prices of home ownership in different major cities. They used the price of one square foot of a luxury apartment in Manhattan as a benchmark, and then showed how much room you would receive in different cities for the same amount.

Although there were a couple neat things, the overall quality of the art pieces was quite disappointing. I guess that's the neat thing about art - although I still struggle to see how anyone could find some of the more weird pieces enjoyable to look at.

Cost

The Art Under The Bridge Festival is a free festival, although one of the rooms that housed exhibits recommended a $5 donation.

Some of the buildings with art pieces also had food items for sale, but there was never any pressure to buy anything. There was also a van giving out free samples of gelato and ice cream. That was probably the best thing at the festival.

Estimated Visiting Time

We spent approximately two hours walking around the area and looking at the different art pieces at this festival.
