Star Trek: The Experience (also known as "The Star Trek Ride") is located inside the Hilton Hotel, just off the strip, in Las Vegas. The area contains a bar and restaurant (Quark's Bar and Restaurant), and a shops area. The paid area contains a museum ("The History of the Future"), and two rides ("Klingon Encounter" and "Borg Invasion 4D"). Purchasing admission allows you unlimited access to both rides.

Getting There

Since it is located a bit off the strip, you have a couple of options to get there. If you have a car, that is probably the most convenient, but you can also take public transportation: the Las Vegas Monorail stops at the hotel, but it is expensive. You can also take a bus - The Deuce is the "tourist bus" of Las Vegas, and you can take it to the north end of the strip, and transfer to another bus to get to the Hilton. You can also take a taxi.

The History of the Future Museum

After purchasing your ticket and entering the paid area, you walk around the outside of the room through "The history of the Future Museum". The museum takes approximately 30-45 minutes to walk through and read everything. There is a timeline that starts with NASA and goes through the history of Star Trek technology and people from the TV shows and movies. There are also props from the TV shows and movies that you can look at. It's neat to see how everything "fits together". Many of the props look much less impressive in real life than they did on the TV show.

Klingon Encounter

The Klingon Encounter was the first ride at this attraction, and it's looking quite dated. It's still a lot of fun though - the first effect is really amazing - you will be shocked! (Wikipedia contains spoilers if you're that curious, but it's best to go in unaware). The ride concludes with a motion simulator - if you get motion sick, you may want to avoid it (but you can still go on the ride up until that point). This ride contains characters from The Next Generation series.

Borg Invasion 4D

The Borg Invasion 4-D was opened in 2004. It is a fun mix of live-action and 3D Theater. I preferred it to the Klingon Encounter ride, but others in the group preferred the Klingon Encounter. This ride uses actors from the Star Trek Voyager series.

Cost

The Star Trek Experience is expensive - overpriced, really. Admission is $42.99 per person. You can get $5 off if you purchase tickets online, or you can purchase half price tickets the day of (or the day before) at Tickets2Nite. There is also a backstage tour you can take for an additional $40, but if it's your first time on the rides, you'll probably want to do the rides more than once - save the behind the scenes tour for next time (unless you're a huge star trek fan).
