The Old City of Jerusalem has a market area that sells a lot of items to tourists. Inside the market area, you can find souvenirs, dry foods, and a wide assortment of other seemingly random items.

Compared to other markets of the same type in other countries (like the Cairo Bazaar), this bazaar area was quite clean and tidy. It's still dirtier than a shopping mall, but I never felt uncomfortable when walking around.

As with most bazaar markets, you will need to barter for most items. If you're new to the process, expect to get ripped off a couple times. The biggest hint is to do comparison shopping. Many vendors sell the same product. When someone gives you their "best price", always go check with someone else to see what their best price is. Often just threatening to check with someone else will bring out an even better price.

Estimated Visiting Time

If you're just walking through the area to see what's there, expect to spent 10-15 minutes. If you decide you want to buy something, you can easily spend an additional 10-15 minutes bargaining with the shopkeepers before you decide on a final price.

Cost

It's free to walk through the market.
