There is no question that the Old City of Jerusalem is the "religion capital of the world". With so many people believing different things, all of which they believe is the "truth", tempers often run high, and the old city is often home to violent disagreements. On most days, it's unlikely for any violence to occur, but there's still a greater chance of excitement here than in many other places. Be careful and make sure you know where you're going!

Although there is a slight bit of risk involved, there's also a lot of interesting sites to see that are important to a number of different peoples religions. Notable attractions include the Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

The old city also contains a Muslim Market (Shuk), and a number of restaurants. There are also lots of vendors selling freshly squeezed juice.

Cost

The attractions in the city are free.

Parking

There is parking nearby the Old City, outside the Jaffa Gate. It is just a short 5-minute walk away. The parking garages cost around 50 NIS per day.

Estimated Visiting Time

Although the old city is less than 1 square kilometer, there's still a lot of different sites to see inside. Expect to spend a full day here.
