Kimpton Hotels are great. I've stayed at a couple now, and every one of them seems to have its own unique charm while still providing the same quality of experience that I've come to enjoy. I also love how the internet is free for "Kimpton InTouch" members. So many other high-end hotels find it necessary to charge an additional fee for internet use, and it feels like they're trying to nickel-and-dime their guests. On the contrary, Kimpton provided us with a free $10 mini bar voucher that we could use during our stay.

The Monaco Baltimore Hotel is located in the former headquarters of the B&O Railroad (there is also a B&O Railroad Museum in the city). The building is stunning. The first floor has very high ceilings and beautiful marble staircases. The hotel lobby is on the second floor, and is equally nicely decorated.

The Room

The bedroom was fairly large, and was nicely decorated in typical Kimpton quality. It felt like the room had a bit of a Persian feel - the blue curtains were decorated with what looked like Persian artwork. I think the bed was a King bed, but it looked smaller because the room it was in was pretty large. The bed sheets were very soft, and there was a comfortable chair and flat screen TV.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was also very nice. It had a stone countertop and the soap/shampoo were Aveda products that smelled nice. The walls in the bathroom looked like they were made out of a leathery material - that was a bit unusual. The shower was half open to the bathroom with a half glass wall, and there was no lock on the door. Rather than open/close, the door was just a very large 'cover' that slid over the opening to the bathroom. The toilet paper was a little bit on the rough side, but perhaps it was environmental/earth friendly.

Location

Although the location isn't as central as some of the other hotels that are right in the Baltimore Inner Harbor, the hotel is located just a few blocks north of the harbor and right around the corner from the purple and orange line on the Charm City Circulator.

Cost

When we visited during the long weekend, room rates were around $250 per night. Check the hotel website for current rates.
