Bistro Fast Food and Catering

Bistro was a restaurant located very near the Fairmont Heliopolis Hotel, close to the Cairo Airport. It offers food of adequate quality, for excellent prices.

You can walk in the restaurant and seat yourself, and you will soon be presented with a menu. When we visited, the staff consisted of just one person who moved between the tables, taking orders and serving food that arrived from the kitchen.

Cost

We could not believe how cheap the food was at this restaurant. It was our first night in Cairo, and we weren't sure whether the prices on the menu were listed in US Dollars of Egyptian Pounds (LE). It turns out the prices were listed in Egyptian Pounds, and everything was ridiculously cheap by American standards.

We purchased a bottle of water for 2 LE - less than 40 American cents.

Service

The service was adequate - there was nothing worth noting. When walking in, you seat yourself (don't wait to be seated; people will just look at you funny). Although the menu had English, the people there didn't speak English.

Items Ordered

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo

The chicken tasted a bit strange. It's possible it was seasoned with some foreign spices, but I can't say for sure. It tasted odd. There were also some strange rubbery things in the pasta that may have been pieces of fat from the chicken. Additionally, it was quite salty. It was served with white noodles in a cheesy sauce that was pretty good (but also salty).

Margarita Pizza

We ordered the small pizza. I couldn't believe the size of pizza we obtained for only 12 LE. The pizza was greasy, and the cheese was a bit rubbery. The cheese wasn't as good as you'd expect on an Italian pizza, and it was quite salty, but it wasn't really that bad. The crust was very good - it was dry, meaning all the oil on the pizza came from the cheese.
