The Fairmont Heliopolis Hotel was formerly the Sheraton Heliopolis. It was recently purchased by Fairmont. We were told that it is currently in the process of being renovated. I would currently rate this hotel as a 3.5 star hotel - the lobby is quite nice, and the rooms are around 3-star quality. This hotel is located approximately 5-10 minutes away from the airport (far away from downtown Cairo), making it a convenient place to stay before a flight.

We found that the hotel staff were quite friendly, and eager to earn tips. There was a safe in the room that worked quite well. Unfortunately, the TV did not work so well - it took awhile for us to get it turned on.

The area outside the hotel contains a pool, gardens, and a nice outdoor dining area. When we visited the hotel, that area was closed and nicely decorated. It looked like there was going to be a wedding there.

The hotel also contains a casino (a foreign passport is required for entry), a number of restaurants, a bank, money exchange, and gift shop.

Our room was a pretty good size (it had a desk and dresser), and was clean and pretty nice. The bed was nice and comfortable, and the shower had hot water and excellent water pressure.

Although breakfast was included in our room rate, we weren't able to visit the buffet breakfast area, since we left very early in the morning. Instead, we arranged to have a breakfast box packaged for us. The breakfast box contained an apple, a juice box, and some pastries. It certainly wasn't a great breakfast, but it was ready when I was ready, so at least it was convenient.

Rooms start at around $120, and go up from there. Prices may increase when the renovations are complete.
