The Green Table is a great restaurant located inside Chelsea Market. They make a point of offering farm-fresh ingredients. We visited during their "Late Spring" menu. I got the impression they changed the menu once or twice a season. There were at least 10 things on the menu that looked fantastic - we had difficulty narrowing down our selection.

The one drawback to the restaurant was the noise level. This was surprising, since it was seemingly such a small restaurant. There was a bar on one side of the restaurant, and the kitchen was open. All those things generated enough noise that I felt I had to shout just to be heard.

Dress

It was a fairly casual spot, but it's located inside chelsea market in the meatpacking district, so everyone is dressed smartly.

Cost

Most entrees are between $15-$20, with appetizers between $10-$15. Everything was priced very reasonably.

Reservations

We were able to get the last walk-in table around 6:30pm on a Friday. After that, everyone else who came in had a reservation. Many people tried to come in but were turned away.

Items Ordered

Spring Vegetable Crudites

Farm fresh vegetables, grilled bread, marinated feta, olives & house made dips
Cost:$13

This was a simple but unique dish. There were two wooden baskets with raw vegetables in them (except for the purple potatoes - they were cooked but cold). The veggies were served with four dips - hummus, black bean dip, spiced feta cheese, and olives. It was also served with three toasted pieces of bread from Amy's Bread. The bread was slightly burned, but still edible.

The raw veggies and dips made this dish feel very healthy. The vegetables were very fresh tasting.

Haricots Verts

sauteed with bacon & carmelized onions
Cost:$12

Unlike the previous dish, these beans didn't feel so healthy, but they did taste great! They were covered in a lot of oil or butter, served in a hot skillet, and topped with thick-cut chunks of bacon and fried onions.

GT Burger

Dry-aged Wrighteous Organics beef, kimchi, bacon & tomato relish, on Amy's roll with market greens
Cost:$16

Our waitress recommended the burger to us, and from her description, we thought we had to get it. It was a very good burger - nice and juicy with a lightly spiced tomato relish, with just the right amount of saltiness from the bacon. There was no ketchup or other condiments available, but the burger didn't need it.

The salad on the side was served with an oil dressing, but otherwise it was quite plain.

Vegetarian Farm Plate

'Bimbimbap' - spring vegetables, brown rice, egg yolk cooked in a ceramic bowl with spicy sauce
Cost:$17

The bimbimbap was mostly rice topped with some greens, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, cabbage, and carrots. The bowl it was served in was very hot, so although the egg on top was initially raw, it cooked quite quickly after mixing it up.

The dish was served with what tasted like seaweed kimchi on the side, and a medium-spicy sauce (that tasted like ginger or teriyaki). This dish was like a stir fry, but served creatively.
