The Green Table is a "market fresh" restaurant located inside Chelsea Market. We had been to the green table before for dinner, and were very impressed with it. We decided we had to come back for lunch. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. It wasn't just bad given our high expectations, it was just a bad brunch compared to the other great options in the city.

Dress

It's a fairly casual place.

Cost

Most brunch items were around $15

Reservations

Reservations are recommended. The restaurant is pretty small and fills up quickly.

Items Ordered

Shrimp & Okra Gumbo

Cost:Cup $6, Bowl $10

The Shrimp & Okra Gumbo was a pretty good stew. There wasn't much okra in it, but there was a reasonable amount of shrimp. It was probably one of the better items I had at brunch.

Local Sweet Corn

On the cob, grilled, with cilantro-aleppo butter & lime
Cost:$4

The corn was a pretty good piece of corn on the cob. It was served with a spicy butter, but the grilled corn was good enough on its own that it didn't need much.

Bourbon Vanilla French Toast

With local fruit, maple syrup, and butter
Cost:$14

The Bourbon Vanilla French Toast was quite disappointing. It was a bit on the dry side, and wasn't all that flavorful. Additionally, it was hardly served with any fruit. For a 'market fresh' restaurant, I was expecting significantly more. There were only a couple tiny slices of peach on top.

Baked Farm Eggs

Two eggs with roasted potatoes, chevre & thyme, Amy's toast, & market greens
Cost:$15

The baked farm eggs were also disappointing. The dish consisted of two eggs in a dish that had been baked. There may have been a couple of potatoes inside the mix too, but it was hard to tell.

The eggs were served fairly raw, and they did not have much flavor. The cheese didn't go all that well with the eggs.
