The Capital Grille is a chain of steakhouse restaurants across the US. This location in Manhattan is conveniently just down the street from Grand Central Station. The restaurant is slightly upscale, and has a very unique architecture of angled glass walls and ceilings.

The food is very good and is about average price for a Manhattan steakhouse. We found them to be less snooty than some other restaurants. For example, they didn't charge a sharing fee like they do at Strip House.

Dress

Although the restaurant is slightly upscale, a suit and tie are not necessary. Nice jeans and a nice shirt are perfectly acceptable.

Cost

Steaks are served al-a-carte and cost about $40 each. Appetizers and sides are around $10 - $15.

Service

The service was adequate and typical of a slightly upscale restaurant. One member of our group sent a steak back to be cooked a little longer. When they brought back the steak, they also brought another serving of warm sides.

Reservations

We called just before we headed over to make reservations. We had no problem getting the last minute reservation, but I think it was a good idea. The restaurant quickly filled up for dinner.

Items Ordered

Bread

Cost:free

We were presented with quite the assortment of breads. They were all very good. They were served with butter.

Fresh Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil with 12-Year Aged Balsamic

Cost:$13

This was a fairly simple salad, although it looked very nice. There were three different colors of tomato served with fresh mozzarella, basil and a bit of vinegar. This is always a nice combination.

Spinach salad with warm Bacon Dressing

Cost:$9

This was an interesting salad with the warm dressing. It was mostly spinach with some mushrooms and cheese. I wasn't too fond of the combination.

Filet Mignon 10oz

Cost:$39

The Filet Mignon was delicious. It was very tender. I asked for it cooked medium-well and I think they actually cooked it medium. The sauce it was served in was very flavorful and delicious.

Dry Aged Sirloin Steak 14oz

Cost:$41

The Dry Aged Sirloin steak was a bit tougher than the Filet Mignon, but still tasted pretty good. It was also served in a flavorful sauce.

Sam's Mashed Potatoes and Seasonal Fresh Vegetables

Cost:$9 each

The seasonal fresh vegetables was a pureed yellow carrot. It was very tasty - almost like a pureed sweet potato. The mashed potatoes were creamy, but a little too salty.
