Sole is a Mediterranean restaurant located in uptown Waterloo. They're a moderately upscale place. They vary their menu occasionally, so there's always something new to try. We've been to Sole before, and we were more impressed with them in the past.

As can be seen in the picture here, the outside of the restaurant is nicely decorated with blue Christmas lights.

Cost

Appetizers are around $10-15
Soup: $6, Salad: $8
Entrees from $16-$40

Dress

Dress varies wildly... some people arrive in suits, and others (usually younger people) wear jeans. Nice jeans/pants and a button shirt are the safest bet.

Items Ordered

Bread

Cost:Free

The bread had a nice spice to it. It was definitely a herb bread of some sort. It was served with some oil in a little dish.

Vine Ripe Tomato

Stuffed with bocconcini and roasted peppers, fresh basil, olive oil and a balsamic reduction.
Cost:$7.95

The presentation here was excellent. The tomato is served with the top sliced off. It has some peppers and cheese between the two pieces of tomato. It looks quite nice. This is a nice alternative to a traditional salad. The tomato was nice and fresh (even in December).

Soup of the Evening - Celery Root and Parsnip

Cost:$5.95

I was disappointed with this soup. It was far too salty. At the same time, it was also very sweet. It tasted very similar to a butternut squash soup, although I don't think there was any squash in it.

Pan Seared Tilapia

Pan Seared Tilapia on jasmine scented rice with a carrot, cumin reduction, lemon scented ricotta and steamed broccoli.
Cost:$21.95

I was quite disappointed with this dish - I found it very bland. The fish was tasteless, and the sauce did not provide any of the needed flavor. The white rice was scented with jasmine, and didn't complement the fish in any meaningful way. The ricotta on top was quite cold, and also felt out of place - it didn't add anything to the fish.
