The San Gennaro Festival is an annual cultural festival that takes place in Little Italy, New York City, for 10 days. The festivities take place on Mulberry St between Houston and Canal Streets. The street is lined with street vendors offering everything from carnival games to food stands. The local restaurants all expand their patios for extra capacity. The street becomes full of people and is nearly impossible to traverse on evenings and weekends. The festival includes some special activities such as a parade, and a Cannoli eating contest.

Food

There is a large selection of Italian foods available from the restaurants lining Mulberry street. The street vendors also sell everything from pizza, pasta, sausages and Italian desserts. Like most festivals, food here is overpriced. We tried a hot Italian sausage which was pretty good for $8. A must try is the deep fried Oreo cookies. They are really good! The Oreos are inside a doughnut batter before deep frying, so you get a small doughnut with an oreo cookie inside it. Deep fried Oreos and Zeppoles were available at 6 for $5.
