I was disappointed in the Pike Place Market. The market building itself is about three or four stories - you enter the top floor from Pike or Pine streets, and can then descend down using the stairs inside.

I thought it was going to be a fun/neat area with all sorts of cool things for sale, but most of the merchandise was what you typically find being sold by street vendors. There were a couple of exceptions to this - everyone knows about the "Pike Place Fish Co". You can purchase fish from this store, and have it shipped to you at home. They're best known for their "flying fish" - they throw (and usually catch) large fish! How neat! I was anticipating more fun attractions like that, but most of the other vendors were selling standard products.

There was one other neat vendor I saw - someone was selling very pretty decorative spices and peppers. They looked quite colorful, and are pictured here.

As far as food goes, you can purchase fruits, vegetables, and lots of fish in the Pike Place Market. Just outside the market, on Pike Place (the street), there are fun restaurants, like The First Starbucks and Le Panier. The other vendors in the Pike Place Market sell typical flea market products like belts, doo-dads, nick-nacks, and collectibles.

This is a public area, and most of it is outside - anything is fine.

Estimated Visiting Time

I was content spending approximately 30 minutes in the market area itself. About 15 minutes of that was spent looking at the Pike Place Fish Co, waiting for them to throw fish. I was content to just "breeze by" the other vendors, and not go into any of the other stores. As mentioned, there are some neat food vendors on Pike Place, so if you're in the area, you may want to check them out and get a snack.
