Perry St. is a Jean-Georges restaurant located on the west end of Manhattan, between Charles Ln. and Perry St. The restaurant has had impressive reviews, but still offers a fixed price lunch, 7 days a week, for only $24/person.

The restaurant has a very modern decor. It is a bright restaurant with lots of windows looking out on the Hudson River across the street. It was quite nice for a brunch. The chairs were nicely cushioned and comfortable. The bathrooms were also very nice - worth a visit.

Dress

Nice Casual - most people were wearing nice jeans and button shirts.

Cost

A fixed price lunch is available for $24/person. Dinner is more expensive.

Service

The service was certainly adequate, but not really special in any way. It was not up to par with most fine dining restaurants.

Reservations

Reservations are definitely recommended. Supposedly walk-ins are permitted, but I got the impression that they preferred reservations. Reservations may need to be made in advance, but when we visited for lunch, we were able to reserve a table for 11:30am just a few hours before.

Cappuccino

Cost:$4

The cappuccino came in a modern looking square mug. Although it looked neat, it took a bit of adjusting to get used to the shape. The secret is to hold it on an angle, and drink from a corner.

The cappuccino itself was pretty good, but not one of the best I've had.

Sourdough bun; small cup of soup

Cost:Free

We were each presented with a bun and a small cup of soup. The soup was a squash soup with melted parmesan cheese on top. It was a great combination.

The sourdough bun was quite tasty, and had a thick crust.

Fixed Price Menu

Cost:$24 includes two meal items and one dessert selection. Additional items are available for $12 each.

The fixed price menu is a great deal. Although each of the two selections isn't huge, it is certainly adequate for a decent sized lunch.

Citrus Salad

The Citrus Salad was a few pieces of citrus fruit with a small ball of fresh mozzarella cheese. The cheese was pretty tasteless (as a good mozzarella is), but the texture went quite well with the citrus fruits.

Spinach and Goat Cheese Omelette, Shoestring Potatoes

The omelette was probably the most disappointing item that we ordered, and it was still quite good. The omelette didn't have anything mixed in it, but had spinach and goat cheese were rolled inside of it. There wasn't really anything special about the omelette - it tasted similar to what you could order elsewhere.

The shoestring potatoes were very tiny pieces of potato, fried until they were crispy, like a potato chip. They were lightly seasoned with a barbecue chip style flavor. Unfortunately, their strange shape made them difficult to eat.

Slowly Cooked Salmon

The slowly cooked salmon was cooked all the way through, and was quite tasty. It had a more buttery texture than most salmon. It went very well with the accompanying mushrooms and sauce, although the flavor of the onion seemed somewhat out of place.

Grilled Beef Hanger Steak

Grilled Beef Hanger Steak, Smoked Paprika Butternut Squash and Caramelized Brussel Sprouts

This plate had a few pieces of thinly sliced beef on top of some brussel sprouts, and topped with an onion ring.

The brussel sprouts were some of the most delicious I have ever tasted. They had a wonderful smokey flavor, that may have been imparted by the butternut squash sauce.

The pieces of beef were a little bit tough, but very flavorful. It was ordered medium, and prepared perfectly.

Chocolate volcano cake

There were two dessert choices available when we visited - the chocolate volcano cake, and a carrot cake. We each chose the chocolate volcano cake, since it sounded much tastier than the carrot cake.

The chocolate cake was a typical chocolate volcano cake. It had a liquidy center, and was very enjoyable. It was served with a small ball of ice cream on the side.
