Pane Fresco is an Italian restaurant and bakery located in downtown Burlington (about 100m up from the lake on Locust Street). Everything they make is excellent – the breads, the soups, and especially the pizzas. They are reasonably priced, especially for the quality of food they offer. There is both indoor seating (that spills into the "Burlington Tourism" section of the building) and an outdoor patio (pictured here).
If you are hoping to purchase bread to take home with you, they often run out later in the day (around 4pm; although it varies day-to-day). They make their bread fresh in the morning, and when it's gone, it's gone until tomorrow. Their hours are also somewhat strange - they are often closed on Mondays, some holidays, and occasionally in the summer when the owners go on vacation.

Margherita Pizza
This is the best Margherita Pizza I’ve had outside of Italy. The crust is just the right texture – very thin, crispy on the bottom, and similar to a ciabatta bread. It is covered with tomato sauce, a basil sauce, and pieces of basil, in addition to cheese. It is a bit salty, but tastes terrific. It comes cut into eight slices, which is enough for two people for lunch.
New Yorker Pizza
Pane Fresco uses their classic pizza dough and covers it in a traditional pepperoni and mushroom pizza. The sauce has a slightly different flavor than in the Margherita pizza – this one fits very well with the pepperoni and mushrooms. As with the Margherita pizza, I found this slightly salty, but very enjoyable, and well worth the price.
