This review is for the MGM Grand Buffet. Vegas hotels have buffets that are unlike anywhere else in the world. There is always a huge selection. There is often too much food to try everything, even if you just take tiny portions of each dish. The neatest thing about this buffet was the mashed potato bar (more on that later).

Overall, the food quality was quite good. It wasn't the best on the strip (the Paris Buffet wins that award), but everything was quite good. The decor was nothing special.

The selection at this buffet was quite large. As with all the buffets on the strip, there was a large selection of seafood, Asian food, and a carving station. Besides the potato bar, the other unique selection at this buffet was Mexican food. They even had make your own tacos. The dessert section was relatively small.

Dress

Casual dress (shorts and a t-shirt) is perfectly acceptable.

Reservations

Probably not accepted - if you get there early (5pm), there won't be too much of a line. If you go later (6-7pm), expect to wait.

Cost

The weekday dinner cost $25.99 per person.

The Potato Bar

The mashed potato bar was fantastic. It was the most enjoyable thing at the buffet. With the potato bar, there are a number of ingredients you can put in your potato. The person making the potatoes takes a ball of mashed potato, and sits it in a puddle of butter on a griddle. After letting it cook for a bit, it is flipped over, and your ingredients are put in and the potato ball is squished down.

This is an excellent way to have potatoes. Knowing what I know now, I probably would have had two or three of these potato balls and skipped the rest of the buffet. The price of the buffet was worthwhile just to get to try the mashed potatoes.
