Le Figaro Cafe is an American/Italian restaurant located on Bleecker Street in New York City. They have a very large menu, so we assumed that it was going to be a poor quality restaurant with just mediocre food, but we were pleasantly surprised with what we ordered.

The restaurant has a very nice garden in the back with a waterfall. It's a pleasant setting for dinner.

Dress

Fairly casual - nice casual clothes like jeans and a nice shirt are perfect.

Cost

Fairly reasonable. The three-course fixed priced menu was $21.95.

Service

Unfortunately, our waitress was terrible. I think she must have been new. She forgot to bring our drinks, and she "forgot to draw the break line" between our appetizers and main courses, so everything came out together.

Items Ordered

Hot Chocolate

Cost:$4.50

This was a very good hot chocolate. It was rich, after mixing it all together, the chocolate chips melted and added even more deliciousness.

Caesar Salad

Cost:The "appetizer" part of our three-course $21.95 fixed priced menu

The caesar salad was a pretty average salad, with an average caesar dressing. The four tomato halves made for a nice presentation, but otherwise the salad wasn't anything special.

Famous figaro chicken vegetable soup

Cost:The "appetizer" part of our three-course $21.95 fixed priced menu

The chicken vegetable soup was just perfect for a cold day. It tasted like a good home-made chicken soup. There was a good mix of broth and vegetables.

Braised Burgundy Beef

With braised begetables over mashed potatoes
Cost:The "main course" part of our three-course $21.95 fixed priced menu

The braised burgundy beef was excellent. The beef was incredibly tender, and the sauce was delicious. There were also a few pieces of carrot and onion with the beef. The sauce went very well with the creamy mashed potatoes, and even added a great flavor to the vegetables! I would order this again.

Porcini Ravioli

Ricotta & porcini filled ravioli in almond pesto sauce
Cost:The "main course" part of our three-course $21.95 fixed priced menu

These ravioli were stuffed with cheese and mushrooms. The almond pesto isn't a traditional pesto with basil, but rather a pesto made from almonds. The pesto was a little bit too thick and creamy for my taste. Otherwise, the raviolis had a very nice wild mushroom flavor.

Cannoli

Cost:The "dessert" part of our three-course $21.95 fixed priced menu

This was the first time I had had a larger cannoli. I usually just purchase the smaller size from Italian bakeries. The filling in this cannoli was very good, but I felt that the shell in the larger size was too thick. It was very hard, and difficult to break through. Otherwise, it was a decent cannoli.

Tiramisu

Cost:The "dessert" part of our three-course $21.95 fixed priced menu

I have had the Tiramisu from Le Figaro Cafe before, and it was as I remembered. It was creamy, and quite good. I thought it could have been better without the raspberry sauce. The raspberry was a bit too acidic for the mild creaminess of the tiramisu.
