LAX Nightclub (pronounced "el-eh-ex") is one of the new nightclubs available at the Luxor Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. It's had a number of popular celebrities "visit" to promote the place, and the promotion seems to be working. When we visited on a Wednesday night, the place was packed, and there was a huge line out front.

We were staying at the Luxor, so we had a room key that entitled us to free VIP entrance (according to availability - really, it was whatever the bouncer felt like). We got dressed up and went to the bouncer in the VIP area (there was no VIP line) to see if we could get in. He must have been having a good day, because he let us in without any problems (it might have helped that we were young and good looking). There was a large line outside the club - if you weren't able to enter through the VIP area, you probably weren't going to get in for a few hours. (We went around midnight - if you go earlier, you may have more luck getting in).

The exterior and entranceway of the club had a gothic-type feel. There was a large archway at the entrance, and there were fake candles on the interior entranceway. The club itself consisted of two levels. The upper level was only a walkway around the exterior of the club, with a bar at one end overlooking the lower level. The lower level was mostly a dance floor. The club was very full, which made walking anywhere difficult.

VIP seating areas (people that had paid for bottle service) were located all along the upper level overlooking the lower dance floor, and in little alcove rooms around the downstairs.

I didn't think that the club was anything special. I certainly would have been disappointed if I had paid for entry. The music was also nothing special - about 60% hip hop, 35% pop, and 5% dance.

Cost

I think the cover charge is typically $20-$30, but if you have a Luxor hotel room key, you can get in free on most days. On some weekday nights, there are people giving out free passes at the entrance to the casino floor.

Dress

The dress code is strictly enforced. There is no athletic wear (running shoes, hats, etc). Nice (non-ripped) jeans and a button shirt are a good choice for a guy. Since the nightclub has a number of bars, there is an age restriction of 21+. There was a wide range of ages although most were probably in their 20s or 30s.

Reservations

VIP bottle service is available, but I've heard that it's in the $800 range.
