The Luxor Hotel and Casino is located on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. It's shaped like a pyramid with an Egyptian theme (although that may soon be changing - apparently they just announced the hotel was going to be renovated, and much of the Egyptian theme was going to be removed). One of its notable features is the bright light that shines from the top. The brightest beam in the world can be seen from anywhere in Las Vegas at night.
After checking in, we had the fun experience of riding an inclinator. Rather than elevators, the Luxor Hotel has four "inclinators" - one in each side of the pyramid. The inclinator moves at an angle up the pyramid, rather than straight up-and-down like an elevator. This creates a strange sideways moving sensation that takes some time to get used to.
The Room
The room itself was a little on the tired side (but clean). Some of the paint on the walls was peeling, and there were two small holes in our bed sheets. The bathroom appeared to be newly renovated - it had a nice red tile in the shower, and a nice granite counter top.
The room we were staying in had two queen beds. The pillows were quite flat, but we were tired enough most nights that we didn't care about the lack of head support. One side of the room was tilted (all rooms in the pyramid face out towards the outside of the pyramid, with a door to the large open atrium). We had a nice view of the Excaliber Hotel and Casino from our room.
There are also two new towers - rooms there are more expensive, but are also nicer.
The Pool
Since we were visiting in October, only one of the four or five pools was open. It still provided a nice opportunity for swimming. There were lounge chairs around the pool, and cabanas (private pool-side "huts") available for renting. The water temperature was quite nice. The pool was lined on one side with large Egyptian statues.
Parking
There is a free self-park parking lot provided It's just a short walk from the parking lot across a bridge to the casino area.
Cost
The cost can vary wildly depending on the time of year you want to travel. A quick look at the luxor website identified some days with a cost as low as $60/night, and other days where the cost was $450/night. If there will be more than two people staying in the room, an extra fee of $25/person/night is added.
