The Heritage Walk is a 5km walk that starts and ends at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. It takes visitors past 20 different sites in the nearby area. A free 90-minute walking tour is available a couple times a day from the Visitors Center in the Inner Harbor, but it wasn't running when we visited. The Visitors Center was able to give us the booklet about the Heritage Walk and we followed it ourselves.

We followed the whole route, with the exception of a small area around the McKim Free School. We skipped it because it didn't look like the most friendly of places for tourists and we weren't in a group. There were also a lot of homeless people around the City Hall, but there were also some police officers there directing traffic so it felt safer.

The walking tour was somewhat interesting, but there really wasn't anything all that exciting on it. I got the impression that there just weren't that many interesting things about Baltimore, so they just did the best they could putting the tour together.

The tour was well marked with medallions every few steps in the sidewalks, and "Heritage Walk" flags at some of the larger historical sites.

Estimated Visiting Time

The guided walking tour lasts about 90 minutes. If you do the full walk on your own, expect to spent approximately 1-2 hours walking the whole route.
