Victoria Falls from the Helicopter

Our travel agent had already booked us a Walking tour of Victoria Falls by Wilderness Safaris, but the visibility was pretty poor from the ground. We heard a helicopter tour offered much better views. We were not disappointed.

The activities desk at our hotel (Victoria Falls Safari Lodge) was able to arrange a helicopter tour of the falls. It's a pretty popular thing to do in Victoria Falls, so I'm pretty sure most hotels in the area can arrange a tour. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel.

The helicopter ride is the best way to see the falls, especially during the high water season where the falls are very misty. The view from above also allows you to appreciate the full scope of the falls. From the ground, you cannot see the entire falls at once. When we flew, the helicopter circled the falls twice in each direction, providing passengers on both side ample time to take pictures. Otherwise, the flight was quite short.

The company seemed a bit disorganized. We were told the whole ride would only take an hour, but it took us 90 minutes. The company was a bit late picking us up from the hotel, and didn't have room for one set of scheduled guests, leaving them to a later flight when they were already on a tight schedule (since they had other activities booked that day).

Cost

We paid $120 at the activities desk in our hotel for the helicopter ride. There was also an additional $8 per person "park entrance fee" that seemed like an unnecessary money grab. It was paid in cash when we arrived at the helipad.
