Overall Experience: 3 / 10

The Great Palace Mosaic Museum, also known as the Istanbul Mosaic Museum, is a fairly small building with a collection of mosaics inside. Most of the museum surrounds a large mosaic floor that has been restored.

I was disappointed in the size of the mosaic collection. When something is labeled a "museum" with an admission charge, I expected something more impressive than what was actually here.

The museum is located at the south-west end of the Arasta Bazaar. We were the only people there. Since it is a bit off the beaten path, the museum probably doesn't see much traffic.

Cost

The entrance fee for the museum is 5 YTL per person. There are no student discounts. Cameras and video cameras are permitted. I thought the 5 YTL fee was too much - I didn't think the mosaic collection was that impressive.

Estimated Visiting Time

The museum is quite small. If you're in a hurry, you could see all the mosaics in three minutes. If you want to have a more leisurely visit and read the story about how the mosaics were restored, you could probably spend 30 minutes here.
