Gracie Mansion is a large historical building and residence in New York City. It's currently used as the official home for the mayor of the city (although Mayor Bloomberg does not live here). Gracie Mansion is located in Carl Schurz Park, just east of East End Avenue and Eighty-eighth Street in Manhattan.

Although Gracie Mansion isn't currently in use as the mayor's house, it is still used by the mayor for official functions such as meetings and photo ops. Tours of Gracie Mansion are given at various times - check the website for more up-to-date information.

Cost

Most of the tours have a small cost associated with them -usually $7. There are free tours available at various times throughout the year. We visited for free during a "historic house festival". Reservations were required for tours during the festival, and may be necessary at other times. Photography was not allowed inside the building.

Estimated Visiting Time

The tour of Gracie Mansion lasts approximately one hour. The tour takes visitors through many of the rooms in the house. The guides are quite knowledgeable, and tell you lots of interesting tidbits about the furniture, window coverings, floors, and everything else that's neat about the house. The tour takes visitors to all the rooms on the main level of Gracie Mansion, and the bedrooms on the upper level.

Tours may still be given when parts of the house are in use. If your tour happens to occur at this time, the tour will be shortened as to not interfere with the "official uses" of the mansion.
