Embassy Suites is a chain of hotels around the US. They offer larger rooms, a complimentary breakfast, and evening drinks and snacks. This location in La Jolla, is about 15 minutes outside of downtown San Diego. The hotel is located in a hightech/business area. There is also a mall right across the street, and a P.F. Chang's China Bistro restaurant sharing the same parking lot. There is also an upscale bar/restaurant in the lobby of the hotel.

Renting a room gives you free access to the hotel pool, sauna, hot tub, and small gym. The gym had a few exercise machines equipped with personal TV screens. The pool was fairly typical for hotel pools - small and shallow, but still swimable.

Wireless internet is available in the hotel for $8-$10 per day. The rooms are also equipped with LCD TV screens and a selection of current in-room movies are available for order for $12. Parking was also available for a fee of $17 per day.

Free Food and Drinks

The included breakfast was fairly extensive. The buffet included a large range of hot foods, including bacon, pancakes, french toast, home fries, and scrambled eggs. There was a selection of breads and bagels for toasting, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, baked dessert goods, juices, and coffee. There was a made to order eggs and omelette station with a variety of meats and veggies. The food was pretty good quality and tasted good. Although the meal was the same every day, there was enough variety that you wouldn't get bored of the breakfast too quickly.

The other free food was available in the evenings from 5:30-7:30. An open bar was serving quite the variety of alcoholic beverages. There were also snacks available such as nachos and salsa, chips, and pretzels. One evening they also had small tacos available for a special occasion.

The Room

The rooms are fairly nice and spacious. The room we stayed in had a living room with a double-sized pull out couch, desk, TV, sink, microwave and fridge. The bedroom had two double beds, a TV, and a bathroom. We shared the room between 6 people, and it wasn't too cramped. The extra sink was quite helpful.

The furnishings, carpets, and etc were pretty basic and clean. The bathroom was quite large, but I found it was lacking hooks and hangers for towels. I also found the AC to be quite loud at night, and there was no way to open the windows.

Cost

Room rates vary, but are around $200 per night. The prices are a little bit cheaper than staying in downtown San Diego.
