We had never been to Atlantic City before, so we didn't know what to expect. We knew there were casinos, a beach, and a boardwalk, but didn't know anything else about it. Overall, I think we were mildly disappointed. We didn't go see any parts of Atlantic City other than the Boardwalk, but we've heard the rest of the city is pretty dumpy. The Boardwalk area is nice enough, but isn't really anything special. The Coney Island Boardwalk is much closer to new york city (where we were coming from), and equally nice.

Although the beach was closed when we visited (it was a cold day), it looked very rocky with lots of shells. From what I hear, Atlantic City is a fun place to go gamble, but it doesn't have that much else going for it.

The Casinos

We went into some of the casinos and The Shops Pier, and weren't overly impressed with anything. The Trump Taj Mahal Casino looks fairly nice on the inside, but the outside is falling apart. It also doesn't even begin to compare to casinos in Las Vegas. Vegas casinos are in a completely different class.

Getting There & Parking

It took about 2.5 hours for us to get to Atlantic City from New York City. The highway lets you off right near the Boardwalk, and there were plenty of lots offering parking around there. The prices we saw ranged from about $10 - $20.
