Modern Pastry shop is an Italian Bakery and Cafe in Boston's North End. The area has many Italian shops and restaurants. The shop is well-known and had a line going all the way out the store onto the side walk when we visited. We waited for about 20 minutes, then ordered our dessert to go. There were several cafe tables available to sit at, and they were mostly empty.
We had read about this place being famous for their canoli and decided we had to try it. The canoli were very fresh tasting. They had quite the variety to choose from. You could choose from 4 different types of shells, including the mini shell we selected. There were 4 different types of filling, including the ricotta and vanilla custard shown here. There was a choice of 3 toppings - almonds, chocolate chips, and powdered sugar. Both the fillings were moist. The shell was crispy and crumbly. These were among the best canoli I've had. Still, I don't think they were worth the 20 minute wait in line.
