Madera Cuban Grill is a Cuban restaurant in Long Island City. It is a cute restaurant on a cute street with lots of short buildings and a neighborhood feel. The menu included a variety of salads, sandwiches, meats and fish, usually served with rice and beans. On a nice day, the front windows are open to the street.
The food was pretty good. The free bread they brought to the table was covered in butter and crushed garlic.

Salads and sandwiches were around $10. Most entrees were around $20. They served half price cocktails early in the evening.

Tropical Salad
papaya, mango, and mandarin oranges in mixed greens and toasted almonds with a mint vinaigrette
This was a great salad. It had just the right amount of fresh fruits without becoming a fruit salad. The mango and papaya were delicious.
Madera Style Chicken
Home-made breaded chicken, slowly sauteed in chicken stock, white wine, lemon, garlic, and a dash of paprika. Served with your choice of rice & beans, moro, or house salad.
The chicken was a typical breaded chicken cutlet. The sauce it was in had a hint of sweet and citrus flavor. The rice was plain white rice. The beans were soupy which helped to give the rice some flavor.
Palomilla Steak Sandwich
Thinly sliced steak with caramelized onions and chimichurri sauce. Served with home made french fries or salad.
The steak sandwich came with steak, lettuce, and tomato. The steak was a bit tough, but cut in small pieces. The sandwich came with a large helping of good fries.
Fried Sweet Plantains (Maduros)
All side dishes were $5. Fried plantains are usually delicious and sweet, and these were no exception.
