The "TV Tower" is a large tower in Prague with a very distinct look. It's located a 5-minute walk from the "Jiriho Z Podebrad" subway stop (on the green line), or a 30 minute walk from the new square (Wenceslas Square). The surrounding area wasn't as nice as the rest of Prague; it felt a bit run down (but still fairly safe).

The tower itself was deserted when we arrived. For awhile, we were the only group in the tower!

The tower observation level consisted of three different "viewing pods" that gave you a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. The tower is 216m tall, which isn't really that tall, but it's still much taller than all the other buildings in the area. The viewing pods are probably about halfway up the tower.

The tower is open quite late - usually until 11:30pm, and the TV Tower Restaurant offers good food that is quite reasonable (compared to other restaurants on towers).

Estimated Visiting Time

Casual visitors can probably spend 30-45 minutes at the top of the tower. Other than the view, there isn't much to see up there. We went up the tower before the sun set, so we could see the city in the light. We then ate dinner at the TV Tower Restaurant while the sun went down. We then were able to enjoy the view from the top of the tower at night. Our total visiting time was probably around 2.5 hours.

Cost

Admission to go up the tower costs 150 Kc for adults, or 120 Kc for students.
