Zenon Taverna is a Greek restaurant located in Astoria, NYC. We visited on a Saturday evening and were one of the last groups to get seated without a reservation. There was a 30-60 minute wait that appeared afterwards. The food was all pretty average Greek food. There was a lot of it - we didn't manage to finish our meals.
Dress
Casual
Cost
Most entrees were between $16-$20.
Service
The service was quite inattentive. There were a few times when nobody stopped by for 45 minutes or so.
Reservations
Reservations are probably a good idea if you're planning to visit on a friday/saturday evening.
Items Ordered
Kotopoulo Souvlaki - Chicken Kebab
Char-grilled chicken shish kebab with onion, tomato and green pepperThe chicken souvlaki platter came with sides of greek salad, and one other item (your choice of lemon potatoes, french fries, or rice). The chicken was moist and flavorful with a nicely charred exterior. There was tons of it - I probably managed to finish about half of it before getting completely full. The lemon potatoes were quite good - they were moist on the interior and nicely fried on the outside.
Arnisia Keftedakia - Lamb Meatballs
Sauteed (with wine and lemon) or char-grilled meatballs made with chopped lamb, garlic and oreganoThe lamb meatball platter came with sides of greek salad, and one other item (your choice of lemon potatoes, french fries, or rice). The meatballs were served in a yellow sauce that was quite nice. The quantity of meatballs was just about right, but I would have happily traded half the meatballs for some other vegetables. Just having a plate of meatballs for dinner didn't seem like a proper dinner.
