A tour of the Western Wall Tunnels takes you along the wall, under buildings that were built on top of it. The tunnel isn't actually underground. Over time, buildings were built next to the wall, so this tour goes along the wall, under the buildings that were built next to it.

Tours must be pre-arranged, so be sure to call ahead and arrange your tour. Both English and Hebrew tours are available at different times during the day.

Inside the tunnels, there are a few signs scattered around with random facts about the wall. The tour is mostly just a walk along the wall. There is also a short "history lesson" about the wall that takes place inside the "tunnels". There is a model built of the wall and the surrounding area, and a guide narrates the history of the area, and uses the model to demonstrate what happens to the city and the wall over time.

I didn't think that the tour was very interesting. It's mostly an opportunity for people to spend more time with the wall. I felt that I saw enough of the wall from the outside. Most visitors will probably find the outer portion of the wall big enough to look at and appreciate.

At one spot on the tour, there is a small alcove cut into the wall that is supposedly the closest spot to a holy site that was in the Temple. Jewish people may appreciate going there to pray, since it's close to their holy spot.

Cost

The entrance fee is 25 NIS for adults, or 15 NIS for students/children/seniors.

Estimated Visiting Time

The tour lasts for about an hour.
