The Galleria degli Uffizi, or the Uffizi Gallery is one of the famous art galleries in Florence. The museum contains hundreds of Renaissance paintings and sculptures by artists including Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio. One of the most famous pieces in the gallery is the Birth of Venus. The museum was very crowded and full of guided tour groups. I found it frustrating that large groups would take up half the space (or more) of a room and make it difficult to get around and enjoy the art.

Visiting

We spent about 90 minutes at the museum. There were no maps to the museum, so we didn't know where the key pieces were located. Instead, we walked through every room, looked at every piece and read about several of them. Some of the descriptions on the pieces were interesting. Photography is not allowed in the museum. There are free bathrooms, a gift shop, and a cafe at the restaurant. The cafe also has an outdoor patio.

Cost

Entrance to the museum costs 6.50€ for adults. The line to purchase tickets for the museum was very long when we were there around 2pm. You can call ahead to reserve tickets. The phone operators speak English. On the phone, you receive a reservation number for a particular date and time. To pick up reserved tickets, there was a much shorter line at gate 3 that still took about 15 minutes. The reserved ticket window accepted cash only. There is an additional 4€ charge per ticket for reservations. After picking up our tickets, we still had to wait a few minutes at the entrance line, but it was much faster than the other lines.
