Turtle Jacks is a chain of restaurants in southern ontario. This location is inside Mapleview Mall in Burlington, Ontario. I had been to Turtle Jacks about 5 years ago, and was pleasantly surprised at my experience. The restaurant is still somewhat family friendly, but it's now on the upscale end of family friendly. The quality of food we received was pretty decent.
Dress
Casual - the restaurant is in a mall, after all.
Cost
The average cost of an entree was around $20.
Reservations
We didn't have reservations, and the main restaurant was full. There were a number of open tables in the bar area (where they also served the full menu). We ate there and didn't have any wait.
Items Ordered
Greek Salad
Crisp romaine lettuce tossed in our Greek dressing topped with Kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, diced red onion, and sprinkled with feta cheese.
The full greek salad was a pretty typical restaurant greek salad - it had a decent mix of vegetables, although it was mostly lettuce.
Szechwan Beef
Szechwan stir fry vegetables, lightly fried top sirloin and fresh Asian greens topped upon jasmine rice then completed with cashews and cilantro
The szechwan beef was lightly spiced and served over a bed of white rice. I found it to be quite salty, but it wasn't as bad as some other restaurants I visited in the area.
Bison Meatloaf
Farm raised, bacon wrapped bison, hand mixed with our house specialty seasonings then topped with rosemary demi-glaze and lightly crisped onion straws. Served with Yukon gold mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables
The bison meatloaf was surprisingly tasty. I still wouldn't say that meatloaf is "fine dining", but Turtle Jacks does a nice job with the presentation. The onion straws were nicely fried and the vegetables had a tasty amount of butter on them. The sauce on the meatloaf went quite well with it and the mashed potatoes.
