Tribeca Grand Hotel is located in the Tribeca (triangle beneath Canal) area on Manhattan in New York city. The hotel is quite expensive and upscale. The interior is very modern and nicely decorated. The building is not very tall, so don't expect to get a room with great views. However, it does offer very comfortable rooms just outside downtown Manhattan. I thought it was a bit strange that the only sign outside the hotel was the small writing on a clock in front of the hotel.

The hotel has a restaurant/lounge on the main floor. The lounge is located in an atrium that reaches to the top floor of the building. All the rooms in the hotel surround this atrium, so you can look down from your hotel room floor to the lounge. I've read some complaints that the noise from the lounge travels up to the rooms on weekends. I didn't have this problem on a week day.

There is also wireless internet access available (possibly for free, possibly for $10/day). They also offer a lot of unusual amenities such as iPods, CDs, and DVD players.

Service

I had mixed experiences with the staff. I found that the person I checked in with didn't seem to be very attentive. When I checked out of the hotel I found out I had a package waiting for me that I was suppose to receive on check-in. I also had some confusion with the internet. I was told the wireless internet access would be free. When I went to sign in on my laptop the welcome screen told me it would cost $10 per day. I called the concierge desk to clarify this and he said that the charge would be waived on check out, and I could use him as a reference if there was any trouble. When I checked out there was a charge of $10 for the wireless internet. When I mentioned that I was told it should be free they quickly removed the charge. I'm not sure what that's all about.

The Room

The rooms are a decent size and are very nicely decorated. The furniture and carpets were quite new and modern. The room had all the furnishings you expect from a hotel room - king size bed, desk, very comfortable mesh desk chair, mini bar, fairly large LCD/Plasma TV, closet, safe, and alarm clock.

The bathroom was also quite modern. The shower was circular! The provided soap/shampoo/conditioner/moisturizer were all very good quality and smelled really nice.

The room is also equipped with a noise

Cost

This hotel is on the expensive side, even for Manhattan. Room rates vary, but expect to pay around $400-$500 per night.
