The Witch & The Milkman is a restaurant located in the Northern Golan Heights region of Syria/Israel. It's currently only accessible from Israel, although the ownership is disputed. The restaurant is a Hebrew-speaking restaurant, although they do have menus in English.

The restaurant tries to appear slightly upscale, although we found most of the food to be only of average quality. The restaurant is located at a fairly high elevation and has some nice views looking out the windows. The decor is also quite unique. The building is all wood and there are several hand made witch dolls hanging in the interior.

Dress

Fairly casual - jeans and a t-shirt is fine.

Cost

The restaurant prices itself as an upscale restaurant, although we didn't think the food provided enough value for the price.

Service

English menus were available, although our waiter didn't speak very much English. There was nothing notable about the service - it was pretty good.

Parking

There is plenty of free parking available just outside the restaurant.

Items Ordered

Bread

Cost:Free

The bread was served with a dish of oil with balsamic vinegar, a few slices of cheese, a dish of salt, and a dish of butter and garlic. With all those different things to try out, it was a shame they only gave us a few slices of bread (for our group of five people). The bread wasn't very special or flavorful. The butter was pretty good, as were the cheeses. Strangely enough, the salt was spiced - it was interesting.

Local herb cream soup

Cost:34 NIS
Served with sour cream and sumac seasoning

This soup was quite sour. It looked very nice, but I found it too sour to enjoy. If you like sour soup, you'll like this soup.

Cream of Chestnut Soup

Cost:42 NIS

This soup, on the other hand, was excellent. It tasted like sweet blended chestnuts! There were even small pieces of chestnuts in the bottom. The soup was smooth, rich, and creamy.

The Burgundy Witch's Casserole

Cost:86 NIS
Selected veal cuts, smoked pullet and lamb chorizos cooked in red wine with root vegetables

The sausage had a nice unique flavor. The meat was very tender, but wasn't very tasty, unfortunately. It was quite bland. The sauce went nicely with the baked potatoes.

Chicken in Champagne with Chestnuts

Daily Special: Young Chicken in Champagne with Chestnuts
Cost:74 NIS

The chicken was a little bit rubbery, which was surprising. It was also very salty. The mashed potatoes were very creamy, but lacked any real flavor. The dish was also served with some other vegetables (carrots and mushrooms), and a couple of chestnuts. The chestnuts were a nice touch. Overall, this dish was quite salty, but didn't have any other flavor.

Truffles Ravioli

Filled with sheep cheese in cream and saffron, in truffles cream
Cost:58 NIS

The ravioli was definitely the winner of this meal. It was excellent. It could not have been any better. The sauce was thick and creamy, and tasted very rich. There were a few pieces of broccoli in the ravioli, but not many. The sauce was outstanding - even without the ravioli, the sauce was enjoyable to eat with a spoon.

Latte

Cost:10 NIS

The latte was pretty good, and had a strong coffee flavor. It didn't have much foam.
