The Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
addresses
The Roman Forum and Palantine Hill make up the center of ancient Rome. Most buildings are in ruins now, but the impressive pillars and walkways give visitors an idea of how glorious this area must have been at the peak of the Roman empire. If you are in Rome, these are some of the "must see" attractions, simply because of their historical significance.
Unfortunately, it's not always easy to know what you're looking at. There isn't any information on any of the signs, with a couple minor exceptions (such as the senate house). Photo ID is required if you want to rent an audio guide for the day, and there are no english tours available.
The Roman Forum and Palantine Hill share entrance/exit points, and no re-admission is permitted. I found the ruins of the Roman Forum more interesting - the remaining pillars and buildings created a very clear picture in my mind about the magnificence of ancient Rome. The Palantine Hill had some nice gardens some old palace buildings, and tunnels/roadways. There is also a nice view of the Circus Maximus from the back.
Cost
Admission to the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill is only available as a "combo ticket" along with admission to The Colosseum. The combined cost for all attractions is 12€. Admission is not available separately. There were a few separate entrances where you could purchase tickets. If there is a really long line at one entrance, you can try another.
Estimated Visiting Time
If you rush through everything quickly, you can probably see everything in 2 hours. 3-4 hours are advisable for a more thorough visit.
