The Dubliner is an irish bar and restaurant located on F street, just north of the U.S. Capitol Building. We visited on a Friday night around 8pm, and there was a 15 minute wait for a table. The place was quite busy - possibly because it's one of the only restaurants in this area.
We were a bit skeptical of the quality of food we could expect from an Irish bar, but we were quite impressed. Everything had a "home cooked" feel about it, and everything we had was pretty good.
Dress
Very casual.
Cost
Most entrees range from $10-$15.
Service
There was nothing noteworthy about the service
Reservations
I think they take reservations, since there was one group that came in and was seated while we were waiting for a table (we just walked in). If you don't feel like waiting, it could be a good idea to make a reservation.
Items Ordered
House Salad
Fresh Romaine with tomato, cucumber, carrots, red onions, black olive & croutons with choice of dressing. The house salad was probably the most disappointing part of our meal here. It was mostly just lettuce with onions and croutons on top, and a tomato or two thrown in for good measure. The dressing was served on the side (which was nice), but there wasn't really anything special about the salad.
Irish Beef Stew
A proud combination of choice pieces of beef, fresh garden vegetables, and hearty chunks of potato, cooked in a rich brown sauce. The irish beef stew was really good. It is a great combination of beef, potatoes, and carrots in a thick gravy sauce. We each received a small bun with our entree, and it went very well with this stew.
Chicken Hibernian
Roasted breast of chicken served with herbed roasted potatoes, vegetables and Irish whiskey mushroom sauce. The Chicken Hibernian was another excellent entree. The plate consisted of some potatoes and green beans that were covered with a chicken breast, which was topped with a white cream-based mushroom sauce. The sauce was incredibly flavorful, and went very well with the chicken. It turned ordinary bland chicken into something delicious.
The beans and potatoes were also quite good. The beans had a nice buttery flavor, and the potatoes were seasoned and baked in oil until they turned a bit crispy.
