Symposium Cafe is located in uptown Waterloo. They offer a large selection of cafe foods - salad, soup, pizza and sandwiches, as well as quite a few entrees. They also have some really good desserts. They offer casual chic dining with comfy couches and armchairs. This is a common place for students and people on dates.
Cost
The prices are a little expensive for a cafe. Most sandwiches are under $10 and entrees are between $15-$30.
Dress
The restaurant is quite casual, although some people like to dress up a bit in "smart casual" clothes.
Items Ordered
Freshly Squeezed Juices - Symposium Orange/Strawberry/Banana
A must try combination - tangy orange with a natural sweetness and strawberry results in a full-bodied refreshing drink which is a favorite. The juice is rather small, but tastes very fresh. You can make out each of the three fruit flavors. It is slightly acidic, but pretty good.
Sesame Thai Chicken Wrap
The Far East at your fingertips! A superb combination of grilled chicken breast strips, organic greens, diced bell peppers, almonds, shredded carrots, and green onions mixed in a Sesame Thai dressing and tastefully wrapped in a spinach tortilla. This wrap was very tasty. It had an "Asian salad" feel in a wrap. It was served toasted, so slightly warm. There were lots of veggies and chicken. The fries served with the wrap were just average.
The Works Pizza
Pepperoni, mushrooms, red onions, red peppers, green peppers, tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese. The pizza was served to us in two halves. Apparently half the pizza got stuck in the oven and they had to make another half. We received the other half later, but I wondered what happened to the other half of the pizza they remade. The pizza crust was nice and dry, not oily or greasy. The topping selection was quite good, but there weren't a lot of veggies. The pizza was fairly large, and a little more than enough for one person.
Symposium East Meets West
Two separate pleasures on one plate. Vanilla ice cream and strawberries topped with strawberry puree meet chocolate ice cream, bananas and chocolate syrup. A mouth watering combination topped with whipped cream. The crepes were delicious and thin. I loved the combination of flavors. The ice cream was a mediocre quality, but the strawberries were fresh. This is a large dessert - good for sharing.
Parking
There is a large parking lot in the shopping center just across the street.
