The Step Pyramid (also known as the Pyramid of Djoser) and the associated temple complex is located in Sakkara (or Saqqara), Egypt. The step pyramid is the first Egyptian pyramid that was built. I was surprised how big it was!

After arriving at the site, you will first walk through a temple area before you arrive at the Step Pyramid. You can walk around the step pyramid, but it looks the same from all sides. It's not as big as the Giza Pyramids, but it's still quite large.

There is also a stairway that you can go up that will take you to a small hill where there are some other ruins. There were lots of locals here trying to get people to ride camels. (They might tell you the camel ride is free, but when you're on the camel, they'll tell you getting off the camel is not free). From the hill, on a clear day, you can see the Bent Pyramid off in the distance.

Cost

Foreign tourists pay 50 LE each to visit the Step Pyramid. Cameras and video cameras are permitted.

Estimated Visiting Time

The temple complex is fairly large, and it's neat to walk around the step pyramid. Expect to spend 30-45 minutes here.
