Songkran is a Thai restaurant located in the Chelsea area of NYC. Like most Thai restaurants in NY, Songkran offers tasty Thai food for very reasonable prices. The restaurant was pretty empty when we visited, and they were able to accommodate our relatively large group without any wait.

Dress

Very casual

Cost

Quite reasonable. Most curry/entree items were around $12.

Items Ordered

Fried Spring Roll

Fried Thai style egg roll with mixed vegetable served with sweet apple sauce
Cost:$4.95

The spring roll platter came with three spring rolls, cut into six halves. They were your typical tasty fried spring roll.

Chicken Panang

Chicken or beef w. red panang curry served with steamed broccoli
Cost:$11.95

The chicken panang was a red curry dish with steamed broccoli. It was served with white rice, but if I had known, I would have ordered it with brown rice.

The curry was fairly spicy, as indicated by an asterisk on the menu. The curry didn't really soak into the broccoli at all, so in the end, I ended up eating the broccoli on its own (since the pieces were so large), and the curry separately.

The curry itself was just what I was looking for - it was spicy, and had a delicious coconut milk flavor. It was served with lots of chicken, but could have used some other vegetables.

Cashew Nut

Stir-fried cashew nut, pepper, pineapple, scallion & bamboo garlic sauce
Cost:$10.95 for chicken or squid, $11.95 with beef, $14.95 for shrimp/scallop

The cashew nut was ordered with chicken and brown rice. It had a great assortment of vegetables, and a good amount of cashews and chicken. It was quite mild flavored, but still tasty.

Sweet Banana

Ripened banana in hot coconut milk.
Cost:$5.95

This was an interesting dessert. It was exactly what it says, one sliced banana served in a bowl of hot milk. It tasted not bad, but wasn't very sweet. As seen in the picture, it was very soupy.
