Sofitel Lyon Bellecour

The Sofitel Lyon Bellecour hotel is a very nice hotel situated in the center of Lyon. It is very close to the commercial street with many shops and restaurants. There is also a subway stop and train station close by in the main "Bellecour Square". The location is quite good, although it is pretty far from the Part-Dieux train station.

The staff spoke English and were all very polite and helpful. The hotel has a restaurant on the top floor, which was closed for renovations when we visited. There was also a free fitness center that we didn't visit.

The hotel breakfast was very expensive, and we didn't try it since there are many cafes and breakfast spots available on the main pedestrian shopping street, which is nearby. High speed internet was available in the rooms for 20€ per day, or 5€ per hour.

The Room

The rooms offer a bit of extra luxury from a standard hotel room. The laminate floors with an area rug around the bed give a very clean look. The rooms are equipped with electronic shades - the shades move up and down at the touch of a button conveniently located next to the bed. The bed was a queen size, and quite comfortable.

The bathroom had a huge shower room with a modern style "rain shower". It was neat to try, but I actually found it quite difficult to adjust to. The bathroom door was also modern and a bit strange - it didn't close completely.

Our window offered a fairly nice view of the river, although there is a noisy street just outside. It was very quiet with the window closed.

Check the hotel website for room rates. We found rooms for under 200€ per night. Extras like internet and breakfast and internet were around 20€ per day. I always find it a bit strange how nicer hotels (like this one) charge ridiculous rates for extras like the internet, while much cheaper hotels offer internet access for free.
