We ate lunch at the Silk Road Hotel as part of our tour of Petra. The hotel is conveniently located a 1-minute drive away from the Petra visitors center.
The hotel offers a small buffet lunch. Drinks are an additional cost. When we arrived around 4:00pm, the hotel staff went and turned on all the burners underneath the chafing dishes. I don't know how long the food had been sitting out before that.
The quality of the food was just OK. We had salads first (to give the hot dishes some time to heat up). The salad selection included hummus, tomatoes and cucumbers, red cabbage, and chickpeas in ketchup (that was weird).
After trying the salads, we went for the hot food. The food wasn't very hot, even though the burners had been on for 15-20 minutes. It was just warm. The hot food included fries, chicken thighs, lamb in a sauce, white rice, and cauliflower. Nothing was really all that good. Everything was quite bland. But, since it was a late lunch, we were hungry, and didn't have a problem eating anything.
The dessert selection was quite poor - they had one very sweet coconut cake, a yellow pudding, and apples and oranges.
Cost
Since we visited as part of a group, the cost of the lunch was included in our tour cost. Beverages were not included. They cost between 1-2 JD each.
Service
When we arrived, our tour group was directed to a set of tables. As soon as we sat down, someone came over and asked if we wanted to purchase beverages with our meal. Beverages were either 1 JD or 2 JD, depending on what was ordered. After the beverage money was collected, the wait staff intermittently picked up dirty plates, but they took their time.
