The Seattle Underground Tour is one of the few actual tourist attractions in Seattle. As they explain at the beginning of the tour, the entire city used to be lower than it is today. After a big fire burned most of the city down, the city decided to raise the ground level of the city (to prevent sewage and flooding). Many of the original sidewalks and old storefronts are still visible from when before the city was raised. This tour lets you walk along those sidewalks underneath the modern streets.

Getting There

The Seattle Underground Tour main building is located right off Pioneer Square. You can see the building from the square (if you're on the right side). The signage is pretty big, so it's hard to miss.

There are buses that service the area, but we drove. There are a number of parking lots in the surrounding area. The lot we parked in cost $20 for the full day, but slightly cheaper options are also available.

Cost

The tour costs $18 for each adult. There was an additional small cost for reserving in advance. We did not make a reservation and were able to purchase tickets about 5 minutes before the start of the tour.

Estimated Visiting Time

The tour is supposed to last about 90 minutes. It starts off with a 15-20 minute talk in the main building, then you visit three different underground sites in the surrounding area. Our tour lasted about 95-100 minutes, but we had lots of questions.
