The Sarasota Season of Sculpture is a series of sculptures assembled in the park on the Bayfront in downtown Sarasota, FL. This year, the park contains 24 sculptures that are assembled all along the waterfront. The park is right next to the water, so if you get bored of the sculptures, you can always enjoy the nice view looking out over the Gulf of Mexico.

Although some of the sculptures were neat, I thought a lot of them were just weird. I guess that's modern art though - weird. Each sculpture had a little blurb from the artist, and the descriptions were very "artsy". For example, you could be looking at a lump of metal, and the description would say something like "This piece speaks to the adversity of human life, and demonstrates how we are all eternally struggling for recognition... (continued)". The descriptions were mostly useless. I would have preferred to read about how the art was fabricated, or other neat facts about it.

Compared to the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, the Sarasota Sculpture Park had more statues, and was more enjoyable to look at.

Obtaining a map of the Bayfront Sculpture Park

There was a machine at either end of the park that was available to print out a map of the sculpture park, and also accept donations. The maps weren't really necessary though - all the sculptures are in a line, and are quite close to each other, so you don't really need a map to navigate.

Cost

The sculpture park is a free attraction, although donations can be made on site at the machines that print out maps.

Parking

There is a large parking lot outside the Marina Jacks complex, which is conveniently situated in the middle of the sculpture park. Parking here is both convenient and free.

Estimated Visiting Time

Depending on how long you like to spend looking at each sculpture, you could probably spent between 30 minutes and 2 hours at the sculpture park.
