La Decima Musa is a somewhat fancier restaurant located on a small street in Florence. It was the best meal we had in the city, even though it was located in a much quieter area. Everything we had here was quite good, and the menu had both Italian and English translations.
Dress
Nice casual - nice jeans and a nice shirt are fine.
Cost
Most entree items were around €15. There was a €3/person cover charge. Water was €2 for a liter.
Service
The restaurant was pretty small, but there was only one waiter for the whole place. He was very friendly and spoke English as well as Italian.
Items Ordered
Amuse-Bouche
What a nice surprise! After ordering, we were given a small glass of white wine, goat cheese on homemade crackers, and a sheep's cheese between beans. We were also given a basket of bread and bread sticks. The crackers/cheese were excellent.
Sformato di ricotta e pere al miele
Ricotta cheese, honey and pear flanThis was a nice and sweet appetizer with a beautiful presentation. The cheese/pear/honey combination went well together, and the nuts provided a nice change in texture. The flan was light and fluffy.
Sfoglia croccante al ripieno di cavolo nero brasato e taleggio
Crispy filo pastry filled with braised black cabbage and taleggio cheeseThis was a pretty typical cheese pie in a filo pastry. The cheese was a bit too salty, and the bottom of the pastry was slightly burnt, but otherwise it was delicious.
Risotto con verdure primavera mantecato al pecorino di pienza
Risotto with spring vegetables creamed pienza pecorinoThis risotto was quite good. It had a delicious flavor and was very creamy and filling. I thought it could have used a greater number of vegetables.
Filetto di maiale in crema al marsala con pure di patate al timo
Pork fillet in marsala wine cream with thyme mashed potatoes pureeThe pork fillet was cooked medium, and was served with a tasty gravy sauce that was just a little bit sweet. The potatoes were creamy and only very mildly spiced.
Tiramisu
The tiramisu from La Decima Musa was fantastic - it was just the right blend of lady fingers, espresso, and sweetness. This was easily the best tiramisu I've ever had.
