Pizzeria del Sud is an Italian restaurant located in Antwerp, Belgium. They have a fairly large restaurant, with entrances from both Oude Koormarkt and Handschoenmarkt. The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose this restaurant after comparing prices to some other Italian restaurants in the area - they were slightly cheaper (but still offering fairly good quality food).

Most of the staff at the restaurant spoke English - we didn't have any problems. Many of the patrons are tourists.

Cost

The Margherita pizza was excellent value at only €4. Other pizzas were between €7.50 - €10. Most beers were around €3.

Dress

The restaurant was quite casual. Most of the people here were just tourists visiting the area.

Items Ordered

Bread and Pickled Items

Cost:Free

After ordering, our table was given a small basket of bread and pickled items. The bread was a bit on the dry side. The butter was mildly spiced, which was a nice touch.

Hoegaarden

Cost:€2.50

When in Belgium, I felt that I had to try a Belgian beer. Hoegaarden is a "white beer", and was quite good! I usually like white beers, and this one was no exception.

Margherita Pizza

Cost:€4

At only €4, this margherita pizza was an incredible value. It was the cheapest pizza we ordered, but also the best one we had here. It had a really nice flavor, with some herbs and spices on top.

All of the pizzas here were thin, and not too oily. They had a nice thin crust, and weren't overly crispy.

Bolognese Pizza

Cost:€9.40
Minced meat sauce, egg, parmesan

We ordered the Bolognese pizza because it had an egg on top. Some traditional Italian pizzas have eggs on top, and we had never tried one. The egg was a bit runny when the pizza arrived, but it finished cooking after a bit of time sitting on the hot pizza. This pizza tasted more like a pasta than a pizza. The meat sauce was what you'd expect on top of spaghetti. This pizza was good for its novelty value, but was more of a pasta than a pizza.

Peperoni Pizza

Red and green sweet peppers
Cost:€7.50

This Peperoni pizza isn't what you would expect. It's not a typical American pepperoni pizza. Instead, it has actual bell peppers on top! Although it cost more than the margherita pizza, there really wasn't that much more to it - just a few pieces of pepper. The margherita was definitely better value.

Cappuccino

Cost:€2.40

The cappuccino was a pretty typical cappuccino with a nice strong coffee flavor.
