Pizzeria Uno is where Chicago Deep Dish Pizza was first invented in 1943. If you're visiting Chicago, you definitely need to stop at this restaurant and try some of the pizza - it's both tasty, and you can feel like you're eating part of the city's history ;)

Due to the cooking method (the pizza is first pre-baked, then toppings are added, and then the pizza is baked again), pizzas take between 45 minutes and one hour to cook. Be sure to leave plenty of time - this probably isn't the best place to go if you're in a hurry. The pizzas look deceptively small, but due to the thickness of the pizza, a small pizza is adequate for two people.

Cost

As of the time of writing, a small pepperoni pizza (enough for two people) is $13, plus $1.59 per additional topping.

Dress

This is a bar/restaurant. Casual dress, such as shorts and a T-shirt, are appropriate.

Items Ordered

Deep Dish Pizza - Pepperoni, Green Peppers, and Mushrooms (Small)

Cost:$16.17

The menu includes a selection of more traditional Chicago-style deep dish pizzas, but these are my favorite pizza toppings. The pizza is really quite thick - it is more like a casserole with a crust, or a thick pie, than a typical flat pizza. You'll need to use a fork and knife - it's too thick to eat any other way!
