Pannenkoekenhuis is a pancake house serving Dutch style pancakes. They are like a thick crepe with different ingredients cooked in them. They are served as a lunch or dinner rather than a breakfast. They are pan fried and taste really good.

There are both meal-like pancakes, and sweet dessert-like pancakes. The pancakes are quite large and the meal pancakes are quite filling - we were happy to share two pancakes between two people.

This restaurant is located in a large square in Leiden - not far from the central station. They have several outdoor tables in the square, but when we visited they were quite busy, and all the outdoor tables were taken.

Cost

Most pancakes are around €6 - €8.

Items Ordered

Cheese, Ham, Tomato Pancake

Cost:€7.75

This pancake was very filling. The cheese made it really nice and crispy. It was really just delicious. We're not use to having cheese and ham in a pancake, but it worked really well.

Apple, Cinnamon, Powder Sugar Pancake

Cost:€6

This pancake was not as filling, but was just as tasty. It was more of a dessert. It was completely filled with apple slices and covered with sugar and the taste of cinnamon.

Service

Seat yourself at a table and someone will come to take your order. There is an English menu available if you ask for it, although the menu is fairly simple and you may be able to figure it out in Dutch.

Dress

Very casual - shorts and t-shirt are fine.
